Obituary of Robert Paul Carnell

Mr. Robert Carnell, age 66, of Newton, died Tuesday afternoon, March 11, 2008, in Flowers Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Friday, March 14, 2008, at New Covenant Church in Newton with Reverend Robert Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will gather and receive family and friends at the home of his son Robert at 258 College Street in Newton. Visitation will be in New Covenant Church Friday from 9:30 A. M. until service time. Mr. Carnell was born February 9, 1942 in Holland, Missouri to the late Gertrude Violet Gentry Carnell and John Herman Carnell. He had lived in the Newton area since 1974 where he owned and operated Carnell Remodeling until he became disabled. He served the Lord with his music at New Covenant Church, Logan Road Baptist Church, Klondyke Baptist Church, Holmes Free Will Baptist Church, Newton Baptist Church, Bay Springs Baptist Church, and Pilgrim Home Baptist Church. Mr. Carnell taught Sunday School, influencing many young people with his teachings. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Henson Carnell of Newton; four daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Dan Mitchell of Dothan, Paula and Brad Gillis of Slocomb, Debra and Greg Davis of Wicksburg, and Christina Carnell of Los Angeles, California; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Caroline Carnell of Newton; one sister, Connie and Frankie Phillips of Malvern; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman Jr. and Carol Carnell of DeSota, Missouri, James Carnell of Merrit Island, Florida, Joe Carnell of Ozark, and Dennis and Betty Carnell of Slocomb; Twelve grandchildren, Miranda Carnell, Candace Carnell, Savannah Carnell, Joshua Davis, Gabrielle Davis, Ariana Davis, Elijah Davis, Grace Ann Davis, Olivia Bryant, Victoria Bryant, Mikayla Bryant, Claudia Bryant, and one grandson, Gavin Paul Gillis, is expected in the following weeks. One great grandchild is also expected. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to New Covenant Church, P. O. Box 45, Newton, Alabama 36352, or to The American Cancer Society, 2346 West Main Street - Suite 3, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
