Obituary of Leland Roy Cole

Mr. Leland R. Cole, formerly of Ozark, passed away at his home in Yalaha, Florida on March 2, 2009. He was born on March 31, 1929 in Flint, Michigan and spent most of his childhood in Norwalk, Ohio. A memorial service for Mr. Cole will be held at 10:00 A.M. March 21, 2009 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark. Interment will follow with full Military Honors in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army and served for 27 years as a pilot. His career in the Army included two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He earned various medals and accommodations, including The Bronze Star. After retiring from the Army, he became a flight instructor at Fort Rucker, Alabama and lived in Ozark over twenty years. Although Leland moved to Florida to be closer to his children, he always considered Ozark his home. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post #6020 in Daleville, Alabama, Per Capita-Life Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Okahumpka, Florida, AMVETS #2006 in Leesburg, Florida, and American Legion Post # 0249 in Fruitland Park, Florida. He is survived by his loving partner, Ginny Quearry; daughter, Gloria (Pete) DeVito; two sons, Michael (Renate) Cole, Alan (Jean) Cole; four sisters, Irma, Ruth, Janis and Judy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Florida 32778.
