Obituary of Carolyn Barnes

Mrs. Carolyn Windham Barnes, age 87, of Daleville, died Sunday morning, January 28,2007 at her home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, from the First United Methodist Church of Daleville with Reverend John McCullough officiating. Interment will follow in Daleville Memorial Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the Church from 9:30 A. M. Wednesday until service time. Mrs. Barnes was born April 23, 1919 in Daleville to the late Jesse Ophelia Andrews Windham and Alva Forrest Windham. A life-long resident of Daleville, Mrs. Barnes taught school in various places including Ariton, Ozark, and Daleville, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Daleville, joining as a child. She served on various boards and committees and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Dale County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Alabama Education Association, a Charter member of Daleville Pilot Club, the American Rose Society, and the Polynesian Sunset Garden Club of Daleville. Mrs. Barnes was voted the Daleville Super Senior Citizen in 2004. She was an avid Alabama Football fan and an avid gardener, having over 200 rose bushes and 300 daylilies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Barnes in 1974. Survivors include thirteen nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
