Obituary of Gwendolyn Davenport Curry

Mrs. Gwendolyn Davenport Curry, age 78, of Pinckard, died Friday afternoon, December 15, 2006, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Monday, December 18, 2006, from Pinckard Baptist Church with Reverend Andrew Baril officiating. Interment will follow in Pinckard Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mrs. Curry's body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 P. M. until 5:00 P. M. Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Curry was born June 25, 1928 in Dale County to the late Tom and Una Murphy Davenport. She retired from Southeast Alabama Medical Center following twenty years of service. While working as a nurse, she enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing vegetables, and cooking. She was a gracious, devoted Mother, grandmother and great grandmother who spent her entire life caring for those she loved. She was a member of Pinckard Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Gene Curry, her sister, Juanita Campbell, and her brother, Mancil Davenport. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Albert and Brenda Curry, Michael Curry, Johnny Curry, and Ted and Ginger Curry, all of Pinckard, two grandchildren, Jami Curry and Jared Curry, one great grandchild, Holden Curry, step grandchildren, Woodie, Yancy, Kelley, and Brent Shaver, sisters-in-law, Rose Curry, Nell Davenport, and Elvira Curry.
