Obituary of William Daniel Brighton

William Daniel (Bill) Brighton, Jr., 90, of Ozark, AL passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Ozark with Reverend Larry Lambert and Reverend Neil Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Tuesday evening from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M.
Bill was the son of William D. Brighton, Sr. and Mary H. Brighton. He had lived in Ozark since 1968. He was born in Harrisburg, PA and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. Following the war, he became a civilian draftsman at Fort Rucker, a position from which he retired in 1982. He was married for 49 years to Alta Mae (Martin) who preceded him in death in 1998. They had three children: Jim Brighton (Phyllis) of Ozark, Terry Sullivan (the late Eugene) of Ozark and Judy Fulmer (Hal) of Troy, AL. Bill had five grandchildren: Patrick Brighton, Auburn; Candy Hudnall, Ozark; Nikki Watford, Ozark; Adam Sullivan, Ozark; and Jonah Enfinger, Troy. He had eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughters and son, daughter-in-law and son-in-law as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. He is also survived by sister, Doris Lass (Paul), Norfolk, VA; sister, Geraldine Brighton, Norfolk, VA; sister, Annie Kreis (Richard), Evans, GA; and brother, Gerald Brighton (Silvia), The Villages, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alta Mae Martin Brighton, his sister, Ruth Irvine, and his son-in-law, Eugene Sullivan, Jr. He was a long-time member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Ozark. He loved fried oysters, travel photography, and most especially his family, friends, church and country.
