Obituary of Virginia Louise Kenyon

Mrs. Virginia Mix Kenyon, 80, of Ozark, died Monday, July 18, 2016, in Dale Medical Center. A mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Kenyon will be held 10:00 Tuesday, July 26, 2016, in St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church with Reverend Frederick G. Boni officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Monday, July 25, 2016, from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Mrs. Kenyon was born September 27, 1935 in Medina, New York to the late Albert Mix and Irene Kujawa Mix. She received a degree in Nursing from St. Mary’s Nursing School in Rochester, New York and worked as a registered nurse in hospitals and doctor’s offices until her retirement. Mrs. Kenyon married the love of her life June 4, 1957 in West Point, New York. She was a devoted and supportive Army wife throughout her husband’s thirty year military career in several different states and overseas in Germany. Mrs. Kenyon was a caring mother to their three children and was so proud of them as they grew up. She loved fishing in Alaska which she enjoyed for sixteen years. Her big, beautiful garden was always her pride and joy. She canned sweet pickles which were always enjoyed by her many friends. Mrs. Kenyon was a member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Ozark. Survivors include her husband, Major General Richard D. Kenyon (U.S. Army, Retired) of Ozark; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Thompson of Stafford, Virginia; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Kenyon of Greer, South Carolina, Steven Kenyon of Enterprise, Alabama; one granddaughter, Lisa Cook (David) and two great grandsons, Ryan and Eli Cook all of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the U. S. Army Aviation Museum Foundation, Inc, P. O. Box 610, Fort Rucker, Alabama 36362-0610. Service Information
