Mrs. Marian Elizabeth Cairns Barrs, 90, of Newton, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, December 8, 2017, from Newton Baptist Church with Reverend Shane Traylor and Reverend Benjamin Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Newton City Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the church Friday from 2:00 P. M. until service time.
Mrs. Barrs was born March 24, 1927 in Greenfield, Massachusetts to the late Harold E. Cairns and Hazel Morse Cairns. She graduated from Powers Institute in 1944, Providence Bible College in 1947, Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, and Southeastern Bible College in 1956 holding a Bachelor Degree in Education. Mrs. Barrs was a devoted homemaker and worked as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Thomas Barrs.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Heather and Fleetwood Chapman of Dothan, Alabama, and Hope Bonds of Jupiter, Florida; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas Barrs of Atlanta, Georgia, Jonathan and Lisa Barrs of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Kenneth Barrs of San Diego, California, and James and Rebecca Barrs of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Hugh Cairns of Charleston, North Carolina; fifteen grandchildren, Christopher Barrs (Kayla), Stephen Barrs, Matthew Barrs, Zechariah Barrs, Hezekiah Barrs, Victoria Barrs, Savannah Barrs, Christina Woodham, Megan Smith, Candace Chapman, Garret Claassen, Cole Claassen, Kelly Claassen, Brad Bonds, and Dylan Bonds.
