Obituary of Gisele Garrett

Mrs. Gisele Launay Garrett, 79, of Ozark, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 27, 2018, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark with her son, Reverend Bradley Garrett, officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Saturday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Mrs. Garrett was born September 7, 1938 in Chalon Sur Marne, France. She graduated from an all-girl boarding school in 1954. She married Jack R. Garrett on March 29, 1958 and came to the United States with him in November of 1958. Gisele became an American citizen on May 1, 1960 while they were stationed at Fort Campbell. They moved to Ozark in 1963 where she later went to work at the Dale County Public Library, where she served for more than twenty-five years. She was also employed by Ozark Inn Best Western for several years. Mrs. Garrett wrote a weekly column titled “Neither Here Nor There” for the Southern Star after her retirement from the library. She became Library Director at Ariton – Dot Laney Memorial Library in August 2001, and retired after thirteen years. She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law: Colin Garrett, Kurt Garrett, and Bradley and Kimberly Garrett; one granddaughter, Brianna Robbins (Brandon); one great granddaughter, Bethany Robbins; two nephews and one niece, all three from France. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ozark-Dale County Public Library, 416 James Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
