Obituary of John M. Swearingen

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. John M. Swearingen Sr. of Pike Road Alabama met his Lord and Savior face to face on April 16, 2011 after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family during a pre-Easter gathering. Survivors are Margaret Marshall Swearingen, wife of 53 years; two beloved children, John Manly and wife Kris Swearingen, Jr.; and a devoted daughter, Lisa Lee Swearingen; four precious grand children, John Squire Lee, Harrison Barnett Lee, Zachry James Swearingen, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Ann Swearingen; brother and sister-in- law, Noah and Judi Marshall; two nephews, Charles Lee and Amanda Marshall, Michael Marshall; nieces, Heather Lee-Ann and Kenny Sanders, Anna Marshall; three great nieces and one great nephew. John was a graduate of Auburn University in 1957, then began serving his tour of duty in the Air Force at Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyoming in the SAC Division. After serving his tour of duty, he returned to take up the farm operation at his beloved BROAD ACRES- SWEARINGEN FARMS @ Pike Road, Alabama. John then began Swearingen Land Management a real estate company thru out the state of Alabama. Then he began Swearingen Agency, LLC with a vision and love of servicing other farmers thru out the state of Alabama and panhandle of Florida with crop insurance. John's love of the farming industry and desire to do all he could to assist the farmers around the state of Alabama and Florida with their farm operations led him to become affiliated with two crop insurance service agencies, Rain & Hail, LLC and RCIS. During this time in 2000 John was given the battle of surviving Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma with the resulting effects of the chemo drugs which can do much damage to the heart - therefore another battle ensued - for 10 years as he continued the professions he loved, he researched every possible way to keep his heart muscles working. In September of 2010 the Advanced Heart in Birmingham gave him a potential time frame for his TDY mission on earth to end. He then turned his focus on making sure the farmers that he served were and will be taken care of with his departure. You farmers know who you are. His wish and acceptance into the The Anatomical Donor Program, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Al. was his next step by donating himself for the resident study of his heart condition. John, in God's perfect timing on Friday, April 15, 2011, received his orange doner card - Saturday- April 16, 2011 his prayer was answered, his Heavenly Father with his family at the pre-Easter gathering, overlooking the corn crop - the lake he had designed and built, the American Flag sailing- met his Master face to face. Now he will continue to give for research so that others will have hope of medical cures. You are invited to celebrate his home going to Heaven with his family and enjoy the beauty of the farm he loved, most of all enjoying the evening sunset on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 4:30 PM at BROAD ACRES - SWEARINGEN FARMS. John and the family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to your favorite charity. Service Information
