Obituary of Raymond A. Garrett

Raymond A. Garrett lived 89 years and went home to be with Lord on Jan. 3, 201l. He died at home with family in Ozark.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark, Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 3:30 P. M. Pastor Gregg Doss, of Ozark First Assembly of God Church, will lead the service, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Mr. Garrett survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941, and was a recipient of 12 battle stars for his service during World War II. He was blessed with two wives. In 1943, he married LaVera Hayes Garrett (deceased, 1980); and, in l981, he married Leola Steele Garrett (deceased, 1998). He lived most of his life in Kansas, and, except for the war years, made his living doing automotive paint and body work. He was the father of three children by LaVera: Ronald E. Garrett (deceased 2009) and James R. Garrett, both of Wichita, Ks; and Karen Garrett McCleary (husband, George) of Ozark, Al. He was the grandfather of seven, including Ashleigh McCleary Byars (husband, David) of Ozark. He was the great grandfather of nine, including Travis, Jade and Lillian Byars, of Ozark.
The family request the omission of flowers and suggest memorials be made to the Support of Our U. S. Soldiers Ministry in Afghanistan, C/O Ozark First Assembly of God Church, 170 Country Club Drive, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
