Reverend James Henry Palmer, age 94, of Ozark, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Saturday, September 18, 2010, from Chalkhead Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Skeen, his pastor at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Hartford City Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Saturday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday evening.
Reverend Palmer was born November 29, 1915 in Geneva, Alabama to the late James Matthew Palmer and Tinnie Estelle Kelley Palmer. He was a graduate of Emory University School of Theology and served in The Alabama West Florida Conference of The United Methodist Churches. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. Reverend Palmer worked at Fort Rucker with Flight Support for many years, and was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Lucille Hughes Palmer and Ethel Elaine Webb Palmer; two infant daughters, his sister, Ruth White; and his daughter-in-law, Juanita Palmer.

Survivors include ten children, Sue and Charles Allison of Huntsville, Donna and Raymond Anderson of Black, JoAnn and Steve McDaniel of Ozark, Mary and Darry Jackson of Lexington, Alabama, Patsy Palmer of Ozark, Janice and Kevin
Tharpe of Daleville, Johnny Palmer of Pensacola, Florida, Jimmy and Janet Palmer of Doraville, Georgia, James and Tammy Palmer of Ozark, Jerry and Paula Palmer of Webb;
four sisters, Janie Davis of Geneva, Robbie Queen of Geneva, Dorothy and James Jordan of Valdosta, Georgia, and Bettie and Billy Jordan of Geneva.
Eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; and a special friend, Dorothy Cooley also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 165 Private Road 1569, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
