Obituary of Major D.K. Gunn

Major (Retired) D. K. "Pete" Gunn, age 63, of Ozark, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, March 6, 2010, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Bishop Jerry Ogles officiating. Interment will be 1:00 P. M. (CDST) Monday, March 8, 2010, in Fort Mitchell National Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 P. M. until service time. The family will be at the home of his stepdaughter at 1270 Crawford Road in Webb, Alabama.
Mr. Gunn was born November 28, 1946, in Windsor, Missouri to the late Emory Cable Gunn and Beatrice Paxton Gunn. He served in the United States Army with tours in Vietnam and Korea, retiring from the Army National Guard in Montgomery with the rank of Major. He worked at Fort Rucker as a primary helicopter instructor pilot for the past thirty-four years. Mr. Gunn raised polled hereford cattle on his farm in the Brown's Cross Roads Community.
Survivors include his wife, Genie Joines Gunn of Ozark;
one daughter, Julia Anne Gunn of Spring, Texas;
the Mother of his daughter; Anne Cash Gunn of Spring, Texas;
two stepdaughters, Theresa Grider of Pooler, Georgia, and Deanna Turvin of Webb, Alabama;
one stepson, Jason Grider of Athens, Illinois;
one brother and sister-in-law, George Robert and Becky Gunn of Montgomery, Alabama.
Six grandchildren also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the Ozark-Dale County Humane Society, P. O. Box 2502, Ozark, Alabama 36361; or to the American Cancer Society, 2346 West Main Street - Suite 3, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
