Mrs. Annie Ruth Welch Watson, of Skipperville, Alabama, died at the Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Home May 3, 2009, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Morgan Baptist Church in Skipperville, Alabama with the Reverends Bill Weed and Darrell Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in the Bersheba Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, May 4, 2009, at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark, Alabama. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, Virginia Watson Payne in Skipperville, Alabama. Mrs. Watson was born February 15, 1923, in Troy, Alabama to the late Gary Wood and Sarah Elizabeth Hodges Welch. Memorial contributions may be made to Bersheba Cemetery Fund, C/O Max Watson, 2040 County Road 64, Skipperville, Alabama 36374; or Wiregrass Hospice, P. O. Box 2127, Dothan, Alabama 36302. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 60 years, Roy Franklin Watson Sr.; son, William David Watson; daughter-in-law, Regina Littlefield Watson; five brothers and three sisters. "Ma Ruth," as she was so affectionately called, was a member of Morgan Baptist Church in Skipperville, Alabama and a wonderful homemaker. She was known for her apple tarts that she made for all church functions and reunions (made from apples from a tree she planted in her backyard many years ago). She enjoyed all types of crafts especially quilt making and crocheting. She especially loved the outside and as long as she was able, she was often seen on her tractor planting a garden or on the lawn mower cutting grass. She loved her church, community, and family and was always so proud to tell anyone she was from Skipperville, Alabama. She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Watson (Don Snell) Payne, two sons, Roy F. Watson Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia and Jimmy E. (Betty Cox) Watson of Ozark, Alabama.; seven grandchildren, Cynthia Karla Payne (her caregiver while she was at home) of Skipperville, Alabama; Kimberly Payne (Bill) Leverette of Auburn, Alabama; Bridget (Chris) Yeater of Echo, Alabama; Heath (Rhonda) Watson of Skipperville, Alabama; April (Mike) Rice, of Atlanta, Georgia; Heather (Jeremy) Armstrong, of Calera, Alabama and Robin Watson of Geneva Alabama. Seventeen great grandchildren and one sister, Olean Bennett, Ozark, Alabama also survives. The pallbearers will be Jeremy Armstrong, Ronnie Blackman, Johnnie C. Hagler, William Leverette, Mike Rice, Don Snell, Heath Watson, and Chris Yeater. Service Information
