Mrs. Louise Skipper Childs, age 83, of Ozark, died Sunday morning, August 6, 2006, in Oakview Manor Health Care Center, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, August 9, 2006, from Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Kelley and Reverend Dave Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mrs. Child's body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Tuesday evening. Mrs. Childs was born August 31, 1922, to the late James Ralph Skipper and Ethel Snell Skipper of the Asbury Community of Dale County. A life-long member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, she attended Skipperville and Ozark City Schools. Following graduation, she worked for the late Douglas Brown until her marriage in 1945 to Alvin A. "Al" Childs. Mrs. Childs worked for twelve years as an Oral Surgical Technician at Fort Rucker Dental Detachment. From 1964 until her retirement in 1983, she served as Chief Deputy Clerk and Circuit Clerk of Dale County. Mrs. Childs attended the Alabama Judicial College in 1979, 1981, and 1982. She worked as a fulltime volunteer at the Capitol Heights Children's Center with cerebral palsy cases for three years in Montgomery, while her husband served on Governor Wallace's Staff. She also assisted as Special Events Hostess at the Governor's Mansion. On January 13, 1986, she received The Commission of Honorary First Lady of Alabama, by Mrs. Lisa Taylor Wallace, in recognition of her contribution to the State of Alabama. Mrs. Childs was an avid gardener, fisherwoman, and walker. PAGE TWO OF LOUISE CHILDS OBIT Survivors include her husband of over 61 years, Alvin A. "Al" Childs of Ozark, two daughters, Elaine Riggins and her husband, Steve of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Cindy Garrison and her husband, Doug of Ozark, one brother, Cullen Skipper of Ozark, four grandchildren, Chris Riggins, Courtney Riggins, Weston DeLoney, and Aaron Garrison, and two great grandsons, Colin and Liam Riggins. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Asbury United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 2536 County Road 33, Ozark, Alabama 36360. Service Information
