Obituary of Betty Sue Cherry Scyphers

Mrs. Betty Cherry Scyphers, age 86, of Ariton, AL, passed away on December 24, 2017.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, in Ariton Baptist Church with Reverend Dave Walsh officiating. Interment will follow in Ariton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday in the church from 10:00 until service time.
Mrs. Scyphers was born on May 7, 1931 to Jim and Kate Westbrook Cherry. Betty devoted her life to her family and her career in education. She married George Paul Scyphers in 1958 who preceded her in death in 1969. They had one son, Sonny George Scyphers.
Betty dedicated 38 years to her career in education. Throughout those years she taught at Morningview Elementary School in Montgomery, AL; Egypt Lake Elementary School in Tampa, FL; Daleville Elementary School in Daleville, AL; Fort Rucker Elementary and Primary Schools in Fort Rucker, AL: and Midland City Elementary School in Midland City, AL.
Betty will be greatly missed by her son Sonny Scyphers and his wife Diana, her sister Sarah Cherry Dansby, her grandson Steven Scyphers and his wife Mallory, her granddaughter Sharon Mines and her husband Will, her great-granddaughters Hadley Scyphers, Molly Kate Mines and Claire Mines, a very special niece Jodi Dansby Searcy and her husband Jason, and their children Jackson, Jon Cole, Jase, and Josi Brook, a dear nephew Doug Cherry and his wife Cindy, and a special friend Gordon Joyner.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.
