Obituary of Frances Parker Kingsley

Mrs. Kingsley was born December 15, 1916 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Roy R. and Anna Mae Carroll Parker. She received her elementary and high school education from Dale County High School, graduating with honors in May 1935. She completed Riley Business College in Montgomery in 1936, and received an appointment to the Soil Conservation Service by Congressman Henry B. Steagall for the head secretarial position for the building of Lake Tholocco. Frances was then transferred to the Soil Conservation Headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama where she worked until March 1940. She returned home to marry Oliver Dowling Kingsley on April 7, 1940, in the First United Methodist Church. Frances and Oliver's wedding took place just prior to the Sunday morning service and was the first one in the new Church sanctuary. Mrs. Kingsley worked as head bookkeeper and office manager for Carroll Hardware until she retired in 1979. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the John Wesley Sunday School Class, the Adult Choir, Chairman of the Music Committee, Co-Chairman for purchasing the first "pipe organ" installed, taught Sunday School for many years in the primary department, was a M. Y. F. Counselor, did all of the bookkeeping for the building of the new educational building adjoining the Church sanctuary, was a former member of the Women's Missionary Society, and served as chairman of the "Rena Cox" circle. She was a member of the Ozark Book Club and enjoyed playing bridge. Service Information
