Obituary of Martha Ibys Flowers Gallo

Martha Ibys Flowers Gallo, 91, of Daleville, Alabama died Monday, May 22, 2017. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 27, 2017 in Daleville United Methodist Church with Reverend Lee Jones and Reverend Stanley Carter officiating. Entombment will be Saturday at 1:30 P. M. in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Kinsey, Alabama with Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in Daleville United Methodist Church Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until service time. Mrs. Gallo was a retired educator having taught at Daleville High School for many years. She was an Adjunct Professor of Biology at ESJC; charter member of the Daleville Pilot Club and served as its president for many years; Daleville’s woman of the year (1969); was inducted into the Alabama Teacher’s Hall of Fame; served on the Daleville City Council for 16 years; was a member of the Daleville United Methodist Church where she taught adult Sunday school for over 40 years; she operated business with her husband in Daleville, Alabama and Panama City Beach, Florida. Ms. Gallo is survived by her children, Buffa Hargett (Michael); Joseph J. Gallo (Dotty); and John Gallo (Susan); her sister, Peggy Lewis; her grandchildren, Ezra Gallo; Ethan Gallo; Melissa Hargett; Josiah Gallo (Rebekah); Hannah Hill (Evan); and Maria Gallo; and five great-grandchildren. Ms. Gallo was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Gallo and her parents, Dr. James and Bertha Flowers of Wicksburg, Alabama. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Daleville Public Library, 308 Donnell Blvd., Daleville, Alabama 36322; or to Daleville United Methodist Church, 44 Daleville Avenue, Daleville, Alabama 36322.
