Obituary of Billy H. Griggs

Mr. William Homer “Billy” Griggs, 75, of Ozark, died Sunday, April 12, 2015, at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, from Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Benny Cole, Reverend Kenneth Hale, and Reverend C. J. Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Tuesday from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Mr. Griggs was born August 9, 1939 in Dale County to the late Alto Mixon Griggs and Thelma Mae Bottoms Griggs. He was a graduate of Carroll High School and served in the United States Army National Guard, 131st Tank Battalion in Ozark. Mr. Griggs had been engaged in painting in the Ozark area for fifty-six years. He was involved with his son’s athletic clubs at G. W. Long in Skipperville, was an excellent carpenter, and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Griggs was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where he was a serving Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, R. A. leader, and Vacation Bible School worker. He invested his life in Christ for the church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Griggs. Survivors include his wife, Judith Gail Marshall Griggs of Ozark; three sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Kathy Griggs of Auburn, Paul and Britt Griggs of Montgomery, Eric and Jennifer Griggs of Tucson, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Matthew Griggs, Michael Griggs, Makenna Griggs, Cameron Griggs, Hannah Grace Griggs, Eli Griggs, and Henry Griggs; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Marshall Griggs of Ozark, Robert and Linda Griggs of Newton, Neil and Sandra Griggs of Dothan and Mickey and Kathy Griggs of Ozark. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Gideon’s International, P. O. Box 291, Ozark, Alabama 36361. Charitable donations may be made to:
