Obituary of Evelyn Chapman Watson

Mrs. Dorothy Evelyn Chapman Watson, 85, a resident of the Marley Mill Community of Dale County, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, April 30, 2020.
Funeral services will be graveside 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 1, 2020, in Woodlawn Memory Gardens in Ozark with Chaplain Adam Mulliner officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.
Mrs. Watson was born December 19, 1934 in Pike County, Alabama to the late Shelly C. Chapman and Vanera Byrd Chapman. She attended school in Pike County. She met James Foy Watson at a Sacred Harp Singing in Troy and they were married June 12, 1952. They later moved to Ozark and Evelyn worked with General Telephone in Dothan as an operator. She later worked as a clerk in the Dale County Revenue Office until her retirement. Mrs. Watson was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Evelyn was a talented painter and enjoyed watching the Bob Ross program. She also liked to bake and decorate cakes using butter that she churned herself. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting items for them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Foy Watson; and three brothers, Martin Chapman, Coleman Chapman and Holcomb Chapman.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Sherry Watson of Ozark; three grandchildren, Jay Watson (Jeane`) of Ozark, Katie Watson Dansby (Kyle) of Dothan, and Laura Watson Evans (Nick) of Cedar Springs, Georgia; four great grandchildren, Aubrey Watson of Ozark, Cheyenne Evans of Cedar Springs, Georgia, Atlee Watson of Ozark and Cholson Evans of Cedar Springs, Georgia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Community Hospice of Dale Medical Center and to special caregiver, Krista Riley.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Marley Mill Volunteer Fire Department, 3299 North County Road 21, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
