Mr. John Pickens “Pick” Gates, a resident of Ozark, died Thursday, November 18, 2021, at his home. He was 79 years old.
Funeral services will be graveside 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 23, 2021 in Camden City Cemetery, Camden, Alabama with Reverend Dr. Jason Thrower officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.
Mr. Gates was born February 17, 1942 in Camden, Alabama to the late John W. and Blanche Duke Gates. He attended Camden High School and Troy State University. Mr. Gates was a member of the First United Methodist of Ozark. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Auburn fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Barbara Ann Helms Gates; sister-in-law, Pat Kelly; brother-in-law, Joe Weidenbach; and niece, Betsy Weidenbach.
He is survived by sisters-in-law, Peggy Weidenbach and Nancy Tisdale (Ron); brother-in-law, Lavon Kelly; nephews, Charles Kelly (Kristy), John Kelly(Julie), Joey Tisdale (Paige); nieces, Susan Weidenbach Hamlet, Mitzy Kelly Trusty (Wendell), Beth Tisdale Kirchner (Jacob); great nephews, Gregory Park, Cullis Kelly, Caleb Kirchner, Levi Kirchner, Phaden Tisdale, Ryner Tisdale; great nieces, Mary Katherine Hamlet, Madeline Hamlet, Taylor Park, Caroline Kelly, Kathleen Kelly, Charli Grace Kelly, Libby Kelly, Isabella Kirchner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camden United Methodist Church, 127 Broad Street, Camden, Alabama 36726; or to the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
