Obituary of George Luther Green

MSG George Luther Green (United States Army, Retired) died Monday, January 17, 2022 at his home at the age of 82. Funeral services for MSG Green will be graveside 2:00 P. M. Thursday, January 20, 2022, in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery with his son-in-law, Reverend Brian LaFavor, officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors and Masonic Rites, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. MSG Green was born November 18, 1939 in Charleston, Mississippi to the late Luther Fred Green and Mildred Clyde Doris Green. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in June 1957 where he served until he enlisted in the United States Army in March 1965, retiring as a Master Sergeant in July 1982. He served several assignments in the United States and tours of duty overseas in France, Africa, Hawaii, Republic of Vietnam, Thailand and in Turkey. MSG Green received many awards and decorations for outstanding service and exceptional valor which include: two Bronze Star Medals, Joint Service Commendation and Army Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster as well as other medals and certificates. He was an expert marksman with rifle, automatic rifle, machine gun and pistol. Following retirement from active duty, he worked for the Department of the Army with United States Civil Service at the United States Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, retiring in 1997. MSG Green was licensed as a Minister of The Gospel and served as a missionary with Alabama Campers on Mission, working on many mission projects throughout the United States. He served as Chaplain in Hunting Island, South Carolina, interim pastor at the First Baptist Church in Sundance, Wyoming, interim pastor with Aspen Grove Baptist Church in Evanston, Wyoming and interim and supply pastor with several local churches. George was a Master Mason and member of Lodge 409 in Water Valley, Mississippi. He was a Sir Knight of The Knights Temple and was a Nobel of The Mystic Shrine (ELF KHURAFEH) in Saginaw, Michigan. Survivors include his wife, Kay Ann Kleiver Green of Ozark; two daughters, Shana Kay Williams of Ozark and Misty June LaFavor (Brian) of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Bradley John Duncan of Alexandria, Virginia and Andrew Fred Green of Birmingham. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 2536 County Road 33, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
