Obituary of Bobby Joe Mitchell

Bobby Joe Mitchell, age 79, passed away October 18, 2022 in a Montgomery hospital due to lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 21, 2022, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ozark. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive family and friends in the church Friday from 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the P. E. E. R. S. INC. VA Home, 616 Clayton Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104. P.E.E.R.S stands for Positive Environment Engaging Recovery Support. Bobby enjoyed 5 years at this VA Home with other veterans. While living here, he had rehab, counseling, medical care from doctors as well as outings. Bobby’s love for the birds was contagious to the other veterans. The home will continue to feed the birds in his memory. Bobby served in the United States Marines from 1961 to 1966, which included the Cuban Crisis. After service he returned to Dale County working in HVAC for 38 years. He enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to gospel music, spending time with family and children. He also loved feeding and watching the birds. His favorite was his parrot, Snuggles. He was the son of the late Ocie and Thelma Arnold Mitchell. He was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald, Charles and Larry Mitchell and Sister Mary Frances Mitchell Taylor. Also was preceded by brother-in- laws Alton Brundage and David Carmichael. Survivors: wife, Katy Mitchell; daughters, Linda Mitchell (Jim) Helvin and Pam Mitchell (Tom) Dawsey; sisters Jeanette Brundage and Dorothy Carmichael; nieces, and nephews.
