Mrs. Betty Jean Merritt Messick, of Dothan, died Thursday, February 16, 2023. She was 80 years old.
In keeping with the wishes of her family, there are no public services planned at this time for Mrs. Messick. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Messick was born October 24, 1942 in Houston County, Alabama to the late Lee and Rosie Dunn Merritt. She attended Piney Grove Assembly of God Church in Newton. Mrs. Messick enjoyed gardening, coloring, drawing, sewing, puzzles, and loved to go fishing. She adored her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Messick; and three sisters, Edna Aplin, Mary Merritt and Pearl Merritt.
Survivors include one son, Robert Messick of Daleville; one sister, Sara Ergle (Phil) of Campbell, Alabama; one brother, Kenneth Merritt of Chipley, Florida; three grandchildren, Tammy Faye (Jeff) LeBlanc of Dothan, Edward Lee Messick and Robert Lee Messick both of Dothan; four great grandchildren, Zachery, Valarie and Abagail LeBlanc and Kadyn Milner.
