My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to Bob's family and friends. I knew Bob from the work he did with Rolling Thunder AL Chapter 1 to establish the annual POW & MIA Recognition Day Ceremony that is held at the State Capital. Bob worked tirelessly with my husband, Don Westwood and members of the Rolling Thunder Alabama Chapter 1 to make this program a reality. The ceremony continues to be held to this day. My husband, Don Westwood, passed away September 23, 2014, a week after the POW-MIA 2014 ceremony was held at the State Capital. Bob attended Don's funeral at the Spanish Fort Veterans Cemetary, Alabama, where he is laid to rest. That meant more to me than words can ever describe. Rest In Peace Bob.
Thank you for your service to our country and your service to all Veterans. Joanne Westwood

Bob and I worked together while he was at the ADOC. We both were former Redlegs and would share stories about our "glory days" as young field artillery officers. Bob was a consummate professional in every sense of the word. After he left the ADOC and went to work helping Alabama veterans, our paths would cross from time to time and it was always good to talk to him. We played in a golf scramble about two years ago and when I saw him last year about a week before his retirement, I told him we should get together and play golf at Fort Rucker once he was settled. I remember just last month I was thinking that I was going to call him to set up a time to play once the weather cooled off some. He was just a good guy to be around. I will miss him and I will miss those times we would have had in the future playing golf and remembering our former days in the field artillery. Good bye Bob.

Bobby and I arrived in Andalusia at the same time and became friends as we learned our way around town and the high school. From our first days in the baritone section of marching band to going out for football at the same time to cruising in the Clubwagon or one of his cool cars, I'm so thankful our lives paralleled each other and we grew so close.
Our adventures are too numerous to list – and probably better left unexpounded upon. Suffice to say that I knew Bobby always had my back. His was a friendship I treasured.
He was one of my favorite people despite being such a hunk in whom girls were a lot more interested than they were me! (Even my wife was bowled over by his good looks when they met at our 20th high school reunion.)
We lost touch in recent years, but I look back on our time together with much fondness and joy.
I'm not surprised to read others' admiration and memories of Bobby and to learn what an amazing man he became. He accomplished so much and is so beloved by those around him.
I'm still shocked and my heart breaks that he's no longer with us.
I'm sorry I cannot be at his service, but let me express mine & Robin's sincere condolences to Tammy and Nick and the rest of Bobby's family and friends.

I had the honor of working with Bob for many years via the Alabama State Employee Combined Charitable Campaign. Bob served as the Coordinator for the Department of Corrections during his tenure there. Bob's encouragement of his coworkers led to historical fundraising for the Department. Bob also served on the Local Agency Review Committee, ensuring the charities that participated in the Campaign were good stewards of the funds they received. He continued to serve on the Committee after his move to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Bob was such a great person, and I am lucky to call him a friend. I am honored to have known him. He will be missed by so many.

Bob did a magnificent job representing the National Guard. He was a class person who knew just the right way to portray the activity of the men and women in the Guard. Bob served both his nation and state and we were proud to know him and serve with him.
He has now reported for duty in heaven. Hand Salute Guardsman and friend. You will be sorely missed!

Bob was such an example of love for his Lord, his family and our country! He served faithfully at Heritage Baptist church in Prattville , AL in the music ministry and as a deacon. I worked with Bob on numerous choir cantatas as he served as a narrator. He will truly be missed but we do not mourn as those who have no hope!

We at Citizen Soldier Support, Inc are saddened at the passing of Bob. When visiting Joint Headquarters in Montgomery, Al we always visited Bob and could call him any time to discuss matters. He always helped us as best as he could and was very diligent in his duties. Saw him some time back in the Ethics Comm. building in Montgomery. It was such a nice visit. Planned on handing down the reigns of our non-profit to him and Col Amos. Saddened that it is not to be. Had lunch with him many times. He was a good man.. Thank you Bob for always being there. Too young. God bless , comfort and bring peace to his family.

I think Bobby was the youngest of all our cousins on his mom’s side of the family (my dad’s sister) I’m one of the oldest. You just don’t expect life to happen this way…. Unexpected! Bobby was always the most patient person I’ve ever met. He had lots of responsibilities at an early age and he met them with a quiet but strong character. I wish I could have said good bye. But I’ll see him again. Praying for Tammy and Nick.

Directly or indirectly, Robert’s passing will be felt by everyone that knew him, especially Alabama Veterans. I have known and worked with Robert for over a decade, and valued his counsel and friendship. He was a man of principle, courage, and most of all a true friend always there when needed. The Krulak Marine Alliance of Alabama membership sends its deepest and warmest condolences. Robert was all he could be and more! Semper Fi.

It is with deepest sorrow that I express condolences on the unfortunate departure of Bob. His fervent heart and giving nature echoed in his enduring service to Veteran. Serving next to him for many years was indeed a privilege. The void he leaves behind will surely be felt, but his selflessness and love for fellow Veterans and others shall forever remain inspiring.

Bob was a Godly man who loves Jesus and his Family. I served with and around Bob for 30 years and though we didn’t always agree, he was sincere and passionate about his beliefs. Bob’s belief system was God, Family and Country. He was a great Soldier and Great American. He will be missed here on Earth. My thoughts and prayer are with his family.
