A private memorial service for Mrs. Hughes will be held at a later date. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Hughes was born September 23, 1935 in Lee County, Alabama to the late Richard John Parker and Sally Strozier Parker. After graduating from high school in 1951 at the age of 16 she began pursuing a degree in education at Auburn University. In 1956 she graduated with a BA Degree in English from Troy University. In 1961 she began working with the State of Alabama as a social worker. Over the next thirty years she would hold several positions before retiring as a unit supervisor in 1991. She had a passion for reading and encouraged everyone she met to read. She would say “Reading can take you anywhere you want to go.” Working crosswords to solving work finds and puzzles was a daily routine. However, her greatest passion was the outdoors. From pruning trees and bushes to mowing the grass; she loved being outside. Spending time at the beach or working in her flower beds, she just simply “loved to see the sunshine”. The only thing she loved to see more than the sunshine was seeing her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Eugene “Gener” Hughes.
Survivors include three daughters, Laura Hughes Sanders (John) of Dothan, Cindy Hill Tisdale (Scott) of Panama City Beach, FL and Jennifer Hill Ammons (Tommy) of Skipperville; five grandchildren, Parker Wood Thrash, Trenton Daniel Sanders, Jared Wright, Julie Wright McDaniel (Brady Lee), and Brittney Miller. Five great grandchildren also survive.
