Obituary of Kay Moss Burns

Mrs. Elva Kay Moss Burns of Roswell, GA, formerly of Ozark, AL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the age of 83. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 25, 2024, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Tom McClendon officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the church Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Mrs. Burns was born on August 1, 1940, in Becker, Mississippi, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ira Green Moss, Sr. She graduated from Amory High School in 1958 and earned a degree in elementary education from Mississippi University for Women in 1961. Additionally, she received a Master’s Degree in education from Troy State University. After graduating, she worked as an elementary school teacher in Natchez, MS, Huntsville, AL, and Fort Rucker, AL. She and her husband were also the owners of K&W Freight Lines Inc. Mrs. Burns was an active member of Ozark Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she frequently shared her passion for teaching by leading Sunday School classes. She was a past member of the Literary Club of Ozark, Altrua Club, and Friends of the Dale County Library. Kay will be remembered for her wisdom, grace, strength and unwavering faith in the Lord. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Wayne C. Burns; her sister Nell Moss Young; and her brother Ira Green Moss, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Burns Hughes of Ozark, AL; her son, Bradley (Betsy) Burns of Roswell, GA; three grandchildren, Grant (Morgan) Hughes of Bentonville, AR, Lauren Hughes of Ozark, AL, and Harper Burns of Roswell, GA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
