Obituary of James M. Dean

Mr. James M. Dean, age 83, of the Asbury Community of Ozark, died Monday, October 17, 2005, at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Thursday, October 20, 2005, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Dave Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Wednesday evening. The body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Mr. Dean was born February 10, 1922 in the Camp Ground Community of Ozark to the late Ludie Fain Dean and Reverend Walter M. Dean, living most of his adult life in the Asbury Community of Dale County. He served in the United States Navy and retired from Civil Service at Fort Rucker. Mr. Dean was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and Adult Sunday School Class Teacher for many years. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Dean Adams and Eunoka Dean, and two brothers, Virgil Dean and Bernice Dean. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Strickland Dean, Ozark, one daughter, Cathy Dean Tharp and her husband, Allen, Indianapolis, Indiana, two sons, Stanton Dean, Wetumpka, Alabama, and Tommy Dean and his wife, Marilyn, Ozark, two sisters, Esther Everett, Lafayette, Indiana, and Marguerite Cox, Montgomery, one brother, Aubrey Dean and his wife, Edith, Norfolk, Virginia, four grandchildren, Mandy Roe, Fort Hood, Texas, Margaret Tharp, Indianapolis, Indiana, Albert Dean, Ozark, and Jonathan Dean, Alpharetta, Georgia, and one great grandchild, Mary Grace Roe, Fort Hood, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2536 County Road 33, Ozark, Alabama 36360, or to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
