Mrs. Julia Slawson Barnes, 83, of the Doster Community near Ariton, died early Christmas morning, December 25, 2010, in Montgomery. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Todd Smith and Reverend Randy Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Holmes Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 12:30 P. M. until service time. Mrs. Barnes was the daughter of the late Zera Anderson Slawson and Miriam Garner Slawson. Mrs. Barnes was a charter member of the Holmes Freewill Baptist Church was retired from Phillips-Van Heusen in Ozark and Stanley Home Products. She was known for her strong will and determination to always maintain her pride, dignity, and underlying independence until her death. Her kindness and generous ways were expressed with many beautiful handmade quilts that she made for family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Barnes; one brother, Claudie A. Slawson; and a sister, Bessie M. Harrison. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Bob Biersack of Montgomery; a very special and dedicated niece, Patty Blankenship of Clio; Also, three other nieces and three nephews. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Caring Hands Volunteers, 228 Mary Dell Drive, Ozark, Alabama 36360. Service Information
