Obituary of William Garold Smith

SFC William Garold “Smitty” Smith (United States Army, Retired), age 69, of Ozark, died Sunday, November 17, 2013, in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Roger Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. SFC Smith was born September 21, 1944 in Dale County to the late Grenade Smith and Rosa Lee Herring Smith. He attended the Ozark City Schools and joined the Army in 1962. Mr. Smith retired following twenty-eight years of service in the Army and Alabama National Guard. Following his military retirement, he worked with Pemco in Napier Field, retiring with twenty-two years of service. He was an avid fisherman and Braves Baseball fan. Survivors include a special friend, Kristi Perkins of Ozark; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Helen Ann Carter of Huntsville, Nadine and Wes Whitfield of Dothan, Shirley and Dale Lowery of Ozark; one brother, Billy Ray Smith of Ozark.
