Obituary of James Dowling Holman

Mr. James Dowling Holman, age 100, died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at his home in Dothan. J. D. fought a courageous battle with leukemia. We want to thank Dr. Thomas Brown for his devoted care.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 26, 2012, at 2:30 P. M., at the First Presbyterian Church of Dothan, with Pastor Rob C. Oates and Pastor Bob Baxter officiating. Interment will be in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Monday at the church at 1:00 P.M.
Mr. Holman was born April 22, 1912, in Ozark, Alabama, the son of Jesse DaCosta Holman and Susan Dowling Holman. He majored in business at the University of Alabama. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. J. D. was engaged in the furniture business in Ozark, Houston, Texas, Dothan and Daleville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hornsby Holman of Centreville, and his daughter, Jane Dowling Holman.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Gene Dowling of Blue Mountain Beach, Florida, and his grandson Blake Dowling and his wife Jeanne of Tallahassee, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Dothan, 3012 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36305; or to Claybank Memorial Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 946, Ozark, Alabama 36361.
