Papa Joe was the most uplifting man that we had in our lives from the day we got married to the many anniversaries and visits that we have shared following. His wisdom and words of encouragement were always filling our cup and running over with his love.

My family will pray for peace during your time of loss. Dr. Godwin was my professor at Mars Hill College in the 1970's. He inspired me in many ways and I will always be greatful. IHELPU was his theme and it appeared on his North Carolina auto tag then - later it appeared on mine. Although I am only one of the thousands of people he touched, his coaching and mentorship will carry on in my life. May God richly bless your family and comfort you during the loss.

Mrs. Godwin, We were so sorry to hear of Dr. Godwin's passing. Yet, we know he is with his Saviour and Lord. He was such a dear man and has many places in our memories that are precious to us all. He mad such a difference in our lives from the time as our interim pastor, the years spent at Mars Hill, to being so gracious as to pray for us on Chrisy and my wedding. Harold and Wilma always spoke with love of you both through the years. He really made a difference in our lives. We love you. You have our deepest sympathy and will be in our prayers. May God Bless and Keep You, Niles & Christine Howell and Wilma Harris

I will never forget my association with Dr. and Mrs. Godwin during my years at Limestone college. Dr. Godwin was a special person who cared deeply for his students. I especially remember his bringing me Ritz crackers and jelly when I arrived at Gardner Webb for a summer session--to help me study for the chemistry course I took there to fulfill my science requirement at Limestone. He and Mrs. Godwin were like a second set of parents to me. In addition, the comparative religion course I took with Dr, Godwin was one of the most enlightening and interesting courses of my college career--mostly due to the styleof Dr. Godwin,s teaching and his sense of humor. I will always remember him and his profound contribution to my life. Ann (Sires) Lamb
