Mrs. Janabeth Lovett Smith, age 78, of Destin, Florida, died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Friday, December 16, 2011, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither and Reverend Dric D. Williford officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Thursday. Mrs. Smith was born July 28, 1933. She grew up in Lovett, GA and Summerville, SC; she was a graduate of Summerville High School and attended Business College in Summerville, SC. Mrs. Smith was a loving and devoted wife and mother, enjoyed being with family and family activities; she loved to travel. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Destin, FL and participated in the Bayside Newsletter and Women's club. Before her retirement she was employed by the Army Digest, Ft Rucker, AL as editor for 20 years. In her 40-year Civil Service career she served in many positions and was secretary to United States Air Force General Daniel "Chappie" James. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John C. Smith, Sr.; daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) E. Stokes; father, Walter Lovett; and brother, Charles W. Lovett. She is survived by her children, Kathy D. (Smith) Hardy and husband, Don, Tampa, FL, John C. (Chuck) Smith, Jr. and wife, Paula, North Augusta, SC, Gregory (Greg) L. Smith, Seagrove Beach, FL, and Val W. Smith and wife, Sherry, Enterprise, AL; her mother, Kathryn (Williams) Lovett, Destin, FL; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is loved dearly by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Service Information
