Mr. Ewell Lee Mitchell, Jr., 92, of Ozark, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 29, 2015, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Harold Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Friday morning from 9:30 A.M. until service time. Mr. Mitchell was born September 29, 1922, in Ozark, Alabama to the late Ewell Lee Mitchell, Sr. and Florence America Chancey Mitchell. He served in the United States Army during World War II with the rank of Tec.5 and received the following citations: World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, American Service Medal, and Meritorious Unit Award. From 1942 until 1943 he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers out of Los Angeles, California and he assisted in surveying parts of Fort Rucker. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was instrumental in organizing the Heart of Dixie Coon Hunters Association. Mr. Mitchell owned and operated Mitchell’s Service Station and Garage following the death of his father in 1976. This family business had been in operation since 1924. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Kerley Mitchell; one grandson, Charles Taylor Mitchell; and one sister, Mary Helen Kirby. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Lura Pfost of Orlando, Florida and Sarah Ann and Larry Fisk of Ozark; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Billy and Barbara Mitchell of Ozark, Tommy Mitchell of Ozark, and Britt Mitchell of Ozark; two sisters, Florence Potter of Fairhope and Louise Farish of Ozark. Seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survives. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGhee Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36111. Service Information
