Obituary of Katherine Johnston Sasser

Mrs. Katherine Johnston Sasser passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. She was born August 27, 1928 in Midway, Alabama and was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Katherine Anthony Johnston. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Sasser in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. until 2:45 P. M. in the chapel. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Ray Jacoby, Montgomery, and her son, James T. (Jim) Sasser, Columbus, Georgia; three granddaughters, Katie and Martha Sasser, Montgomery; Ann Carter Sasser, Fairhope; two step-grandsons, Dylan Jacoby, Birmingham; Matthew Jacoby, Nashville; her brother, Ted Johnston and wife Phyllis, Birmingham. Mrs. Sasser grew up in Brantley and attended Huntingdon College and Troy State University, earning her M.A. from The University of Alabama. The majority of her adult life was spent in Ozark, where she taught business education at Carroll High for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling with friends, bridge, cooking for her family and was an avid reader. In 2000 she moved to Birmingham and then to Montgomery to be close to her daughter and son-in-law both times. She died in the comfort of her home in Montgomery surrounded by loved ones, including a devoted team of caretakers.
