Obituary of James Ira Floyd

Mr. James Ira Floyd of Ariton, the Rocky Head Community, went home to be with the Lord Saturday night, September 26, 2009 in Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 72.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Wednesday, September 30, 2009, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Robert Grice, Reverend Robert Smith, and Chaplain Anthony Askew officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 P. M. in Peaceful Acres Cemetery, Hwy 52 in Opp, Alabama with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. Tuesday.
Mr. Floyd was born August 28, 1937 in Pike County, Alabama to the late Martha Jo Hays Floyd and James Parker Floyd. Mr. Floyd, an auctioneer, cattleman, and real estate broker, was the owner of the James Floyd Company, Inc. in Dothan, a real estate auction company serving the southeastern states for over 40 years. He was active for many years in Christian ministries to inmates at Dale County Jail in Ozark, and Easterling State Prison in Clio. He was passionate about seeing the Potter's House Ministry building completed for use in the prison ministry. In addition to his Mother, he was preceded in death by his son, James Ira "Jimbo" Floyd, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Martha Jo Wallace "Josie" Floyd of Ariton;
two sons and one daughter-in-law, Clay Floyd of Ariton, and Jody and Voncila Floyd of Ariton;
his Father, James Parker Floyd of Montgomery;
two grandchildren, Jordan Ceilia Floyd and Hayes Isaac Floyd;
sister and brother-in law, Martha and Don Avant of Troy;
brother-in-law, Dr. Tony Wallace and his wife Shannon of Mobile;
sister-in-law, Sis Lester of Mobile.
Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and special friends also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Potter's House Ministry, P. O. Box 544, Clio, Alabama 36017.
