Obituary of Mary Jo Cumbie

Mary Jo Cumbie, age 73, of Ozark, died Saturday, November 28, 2009, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Funeral services will be graveside at 11:00 A. M. Monday, November 30, 2009, in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Reverend Harry Circle officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Miss Cumbie was born August 11, 1936 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Joseph Wheeler Cumbie and Ruth Carroll Cumbie. She graduated from Ozark High School in 1954, and from the University of Alabama in 1958 with majors in Journalism and English. She worked with the Daily Press in Newport News, Virginia as a teen-age editor, and in 1960 began work with Civil Service in the United States Immigration Service in Fort Monroe, Virginia, then with Social Security in Norfolk, Virginia, Langley Field, Virginia, Fort Eustis, Virginia, and Fort Lee, Virginia. She retired from Civil Service in 1983 as a GS-12 and moved home. In 1995 she suffered a stroke and became a resident of Oakview Manor Nursing Facility and later Ozark Health and Rehabilitation.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Cumbie of Ozark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Ozark-Dale County Library, 416 James Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
