Obituary of Thomas Baker Lavender

Mr. Thomas B. Lavender, 86, of Ozark, died at his home Saturday morning, January 24, 2009. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, January 27, 2009, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman and Reverend Harry Circle officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. Lavenders's body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. The Prime of Life Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Monday evening. At other times the family will be at the home of his son, Tommy Lavender 293 Mixon School Road in Ozark. Mr. Lavender was born May 14, 1922 in Ariton, Alabama to the late Moses Bunyan Lavender and Mattie Bertha Baker Lavender. He lived in Ozark during his adult life and owned and operated Lavender Construction Company, building custom homes for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of Ozark Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and a member of The Prime of Life Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. Mr. Lavender was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Myrtle Morrow Lavender; his brothers, Kenneth Lavender, Moses B. Lavender, Bertram Lavender; and his sister, Gertrude Cotton. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Harrison Thornhill of Winter Haven, Florida, Debbie and Tony Bludsworth of Ozark; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Gale Lavender, Ken and Sherri Lavender all of Ozark; one sister-in-law, Doris Lavender of Ozark; eight grandchildren, Cindy Palmisano and her husband, Billy of Tampa, Florida, Tiffany Bolt of Tampa, Florida, Lisa Colvin and her husband, Mike of Ozark, Scott Woodham and his wife, Nancy of Troy, Brittany Lavender and fiance Travis Godwin, Savannah Lavender, Baker Lavender, and Andrew Lavender all of Ozark; six great grandchildren, Phillip Palmisano and his wife Kelly, Casey Palmisano, Brian and Chloe Colvin, Brady Woodham, and Justin Atwell. his special friend, Irene Stevens of Dothan. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Ozark Baptist Church Building Fund, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
