Obituary of Roy C. Harris

Mr. Roy C. Harris, Sr., 92, of Ozark, died Sunday morning, February 19, 2012, at his home following a long illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Steve King and Reverend Bill Hix officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:30 A. M. until service time.
Mr. Harris was born July 16, 1919 in Dale County to the late Porter C. and Ethel Dean Harris. He served in the United States Army during World War II in The European Theater. Mr. Harris lived in various locations around the state while employed with South Central Bell and Southern Bell for forty-three years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Ozark Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zelona Elizabeth Byrd Harris; one son, Ralph Cullen Harris; two brothers, P. C. Harris and Ralph Cullen Harris, three sisters, Alice Riley, Bessie Glover, and Thyra Weaver.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Roy C. Harris, Jr. and Laura Harris of Birmingham; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sarah Elizabeth Wigley of Ozark, Linda and James Wakefield of Anniston, Alabama, Sue and Louis Fleming of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Faye Bruce of Saltillo, Mississippi;
and one sister, Salome Power of Jackson, Alabama;
Eighteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.
