Obituary of Mary Newsome Smith

Mrs. Mary Newsome Smith, age 70, of Dothan, formerly of Ozark, died early Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, April 28, 2012, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Dennis Tew officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark City Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Mrs. Smith was born March 12, 1942 in the Echo Community Dale County to the late James Burton Newsome and Georgia Ann Missouri Murphy Newsome. She worked as a nursing assistant, lab technician, and x-ray technician in Ozark with Dr. Norman W. Holman, Sr. and First Med in Dothan. She was a volunteer with The Red Cross and Hospice. Mrs. Smith was a past member of the Ozark Pilot Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband; Herman Thompson. Survivors include her husband, Billy Smith of Dothan; one son, Greg Thompson; two sisters, Frances Gross of Montgomery and Peggy Norris of Tallahassee, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Diann Newsome of Fayetteville, Georgia; one step-daughter, DeAnn Guyton of Birmingham; three step-sons, Travis Smith of Los Angeles, California, Bryan Smith of Birmingham, and Edward Smith of Palatka, Florida; one granddaughter, Brittney Thompson of Ozark. Several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Service Information
