James Esker “Dick” Richardson a lifelong resident of Ariton, Alabama passed away peacefully on August 5, 2015 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama surrounded by his loving family. He was 97 years old and possibly known as the oldest living citizen of Ariton. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Ariton Baptist Church.
A celebration of his life will be held at Ariton Baptist Church in Ariton, Alabama on August 9, 2015. The visitation will be held beginning at 2:00 P. M. and the funeral service will be held following at 3:30 P. M. with the Reverend David Walsh pastor of Ariton Baptist Church officiating, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. Entombment will be held at a later date at the Ariton Cemetery.
James Esker “Dick” Richardson was born on July 27, 1918 in Ariton, Alabama. He was born to Charlie Oscar and Emma Clifford Richardson. He served in the U. S. Army-Air Force during World War II. After his military career, he became a farmer and self-employed building contractor. He later worked with the U. S. Civil Service (DEH) Department of Engineering and Housing for 20 years until he retired in 1989.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Richardson and six brothers, Dean Richardson, Matt Richardson, Lewis “Bish” Richardson, Travis Richardson, Jim Richardson, and Junior Richardson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Burnell Hall Richardson of Ariton; two sons, Jeff Richardson and Keith Richardson also of Ariton; and one daughter, Dr. Brenda Richardson of Memphis, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will include Aubrey Peters, Joe Smith, Eddie Herring, Eric Richardson, William Carroll, Mike Barefield, Mark Barefield, and Roger Sutherland.
Flowers will be accepted.
