Obituary of Annie Merle Bell

Mrs. Annie Merle Pugh Bell, age 86, of the Rocky Head Community of Ariton, died Sunday evening, December 10, 2006 at her home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, December 14, 2006, from Rocky Head Baptist Church with Reverend Joe Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the Church Thursday from 12:30 P. M. until service time at 2:00 P. M. Mrs. Bell was born September 29, 1920 in Dale County to the late Penny Elizabeth Nix Pugh and William Hurt Pugh. Mrs. Bell worked for 21 years at Fort Rucker as Manager of the Snack Bars retiring at Hanchey Army Heliport in 1986. She was a superb quilter and made a quilt for all of her children, granddaughters, and four of her great grandchildren. She was a member of Rocky Head Baptist Church where she enjoyed her homebound ministry. She was a member of the choir, The Ruth Sunday School Class, and Willing Workers Class. She was a past member of The Kolb Chapter of The Eastern Star in Ozark, and an avid fisherman. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, A. C. "Shorty" Bell of the Rocky Head Community, one daughter, Mae Wingett of Prattville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Bell of Pahrump, Nevada, and DeLeon and DeeDee Bell of the Rocky Head Community, four granddaughters, Penny Elizabeth Woronoff, Patricia Gillian, Kay Herbertz, and Deidre Lynn Bell. Six great grandchildren also survive.
