Obituary of Sarah Elizabeth Byrd

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Willis Byrd, 82, of County Road 123, Ozark, died Saturday morning, October 23, 2004, at her home following a short illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman and Reverend Isom Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Her grandsons will serve as casket bearers. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Tuesday evening. Mrs. Byrd will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. Mrs. Bryd was a native of Ozark where she and her husband owned and operated Byrd Grocery on Fort Rucker Highway for ten years. She was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonidas Byrd, her parents, Bertha Pascal Willis and James Erastus Willis, two sisters, Iva Griggs and Edna Chancey, three brothers, Reverend Pruitte Willis, J. E Willis, Jr., and Pearson Willis. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sarah Deann and George Medley and Mildred Alice Hice, all of Ozark, Gwendlyn Joyce and Chris Monroe, Bradenton, Florida, and Margaret Sue Ward, of Enterprise, two sons and daughters-in-law, James Leonidas and Marilyn Byrd, Orangeburg, South Carolina and William Larry and Jane Byrd, Prattville, Alabama, two Sisters, Peggy Lewis, Montgomery, and Louise Chancey, Ozark, three brothers, James Willis, Montgomery, Rymer Willis, Dothan, J. B. Willis, Panama City, Florida. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive. Special care taker and friends, Miss Annie, Laura, Lynn, and Annie. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
