Obituary of Charles Mathis Richardson

Mr. Charles Mathis "Matt" Richardson, age 84, of Ariton, died Tuesday morning, April 12, 2005 in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Friday, April 15, 2005, from the Ariton Baptist Church with Reverend Stephen Murner and Reverend Guy Causey officiating. Interment will follow in Ariton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Thursday evening. Friday morning at 9:30 A. M. the body will be placed in the Church for viewing. Mr. Richardson was born May 2, 1920 in Dale County to the late Emma Clifford Trawick Richardson and Charlie Oscar Richardson. He worked with Civil Service at Fort Rucker in the Commissary for 17 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Ariton Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and various other Church committees. Mr. Richardson was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Lewis M. Richardson, Jim Richardson, Dean Richardson, Travis Richardson, and Clarence Richardson. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Doris Jones Richardson, Ariton, one daughter and her husband, Dianne and Joe Smith, Ozark, one son and his wife, Dale and Judy Richardson, The Woodlands, Texas, two sisters, Minnie Richardson and Mavis Jenkins and her husband, Frank, Dothan, two brothers, Esker Richardson and his wife, Burnell, Ariton, and Charles Junior Richardson and his wife, Florence, Pensacola, Florida, four grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Lee Smith, Kimberly Richardson, and Kellie Richardson, one brother-in-law, Jack Jones and his wife, Tat, Ariton, and one sister-in-law, Martha Simmons, Freeport, Florida. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to Ariton Baptist Church, P. O. Box 27, Ariton, Alabama 36311.
