Obituary of James Earl Crooks

Mr. James Earl Crooks, age 85, of Ozark, died Sunday afternoon, May 7, 2006 in Dale Medical Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, May 10, 2006, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home of Ozark with Reverend Bill Hix officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30 P. M. until 6:30 P. M. Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Crooks was born September 30, 1920 in Ozark to the late Daisy Mae Deese Crooks and Jasper Vaughn Crooks. Mr. Crooks was a decorated soldier, serving in the United States Army during World War II. In 1943 he was awarded the Distinguish Service Cross for his extraordinary heroism at Guadual Canal. His actions contributed materially to the ultimate success of the infantry with a minimum loss of life. He worked at Fort Rucker with Civil Service, retiring from the Fire Department. He was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Crooks was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Mims Crooks. Mr. Crooks is survived by his daughter, Olivia Ann Crooks of Dallas, Texas. his sister, Gaynell Crooks Dildy of Ozark, his brother, William (Perk) Crooks of Ozark, and his nephew, Teddy Deese, Jr., also of Ozark. Several revered cousins also survive.
