Obituary of Reginald C. Payne

Mr. Reginald C. "Rex" Payne, age 91, of Ozark, died early Friday evening December 8, 2006 in the Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Monday, December 11, 2006 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home with Reverend William Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 A. M. Monday until service time at 11:00 A. M. Mr. Payne was born May 21, 1915 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late Theodosia and Henry Payne. He moved his family to Ozark in 1962 from Calera, Alabama, and worked as an aircraft mechanic at Fort Rucker, Alabama until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for 44 years, and was an avid Braves baseball fan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lola Erwin Payne and their infant son, Jan Palmer Payne. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jayne and Paul Simmons of Ozark, Jean and Virgil Roberts of Opelika, Joy and Don Blessing of Augusta, Georgia, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeff Payne of Graceville, Florida, Jerald and Ann Payne of Columbia, Maryland, and Jim and Peggy Bean of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, sixteen grandchildren, Paul Simmons, Jr., Beverly Jackson, Ashley Simmons, Jed Roberts, Barbara Rowan, Ray Blessing, Randy Blessing, Brenda Cooper, Becky Pinkerton, Butch Payne, Lauren Payne, Anna Payne, John Payne, Amy Todd, Jamie Hester, and Skip Bean. 27 Great Grandchildren also survive.
