Obituary of Dan Howard King

Mr. Dan Howard King, age 73, of the Beamon Community of Ozark, died late Sunday evening, December 4, 2005, at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Thursday, December 8, 2005, at St. Johns Catholic Church with Reverend Charles McCabe officiating. Interment will follow in Skipperville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Wednesday evening. Mr. King was born October 27, 1932, in Dale County. He served in the 131st Armor Battalion in the Alabama National Guard, and in the 2nd Armored Division in the Korean War, receiving a Bronze Star for his actions in battle. He was a graduate of Troy State College, now Troy University, in 1957 with a B. S. Degree. Mr. King began working in Rolla, Missouri for the United States Geological Survey in 1959, as it was known then, and continued with them until his retirement in 1990. He returned to the Beamon Community of Dale County in 1997. He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Mixon King, and mother, Mary Ruth King, his sister, Katherine King Lewis Richardson, and one niece, Kathy Lewis. Survivors include his wife, Arthurine Briggs (Rene) King, the Beamon Community, three sons, Michael King of Webb City, Missouri, Gregory King of Rolla, Missouri, and Richard King of Rolla, Missouri, one sister and brother-in-law, Ann King Hughes and Mascus Hughes of the Beamon Community. One nephew, two nieces, two great nieces, and one great nephew also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Johns Catholic Church, P. O. Box 1008, Ozark, Alabama 36361.
