Obituary of Gladys Marie Roberts

Mrs. Gladys Roberts, age 81, of Ozark, died Monday, January 9, 2006, in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Friday, January 13, 2006, from the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Joe Reams, Reverend Marty Hamilton, and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mrs. Robert's body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Friday.The John Wesley Sunday School Class is invited to serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Thursday evening. Mrs. Roberts was born October 26, 1924 in Pendleton, Oregon to the late Nora Miller Dumazos and Peter George Dumazos. She graduated from Pendleton High School in the Class of 1942, and was married to John D. Roberts on June 22, 1945, in Walla Walla, Washington. She spent the next 20 years as a military wife, living more than seven years in Germany and France. She and John transferred to Ozark from Fort Sill, Oklahoma on September 4, 1954, while he was an Army Aviator and Instructor in the Department of Tactics. They came to call Ozark their true home, having made so many close and dear friends here. Mrs. Roberts grew up loving to dance, especially to "Big Band" music. She was a "gourmet" cook, and enjoyed playing bridge in later life with her many friends. She had a life-long relationship, and to the present time a loving correspondence with her classmates of Pendleton High Class of 1942. She was an avid New York Yankee Baseball fan. Her great love was for her husband, son, and all their children. Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband of 60 years, John D. Roberts, Sr., Ozark, one son, John D. Roberts, Jr. and his wife, Christine, Hesperia, California, four grandchildren, John Wade Roberts, Jeffrey Roberts, James Paul Roberts, and Jennifer Roberts Rodriquez, and three great grandchildren, Amber, Alex, and Andrew Rodriquez; all residing in Hesperia, California.
